Who We Are
Regula Franz is a Documentary Photographer and Educator who holds a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from VCU School of the Arts in Richmond. She is originally from Basel, Switzerland, speaks 5 languages, and spends three months each year in Europe. Interested in indigenous cultures, she photographs all over the globe. She has been teaching Digital Photography and Software classes at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond and the VMFA Studio School for many years. Her mid-career monograph Beyond Journey was published in 2016 by Herekeke Arts Center in New Mexico. She has been leading on-location Photo Workshops since 2006. The past summers, Regula taught street photography in conjunction with the VCU Summer Abroad Program in Vienna. Regula is well known for her supportive yet honest critiques of student work. Her goal is to share her passion of discovering the world through photography and to give people the opportunity to explore and document new places in a supportive and creative environment.
Jessica Lonnes, M.Ed., is the Advising Director as well as a German faculty member in the School of World Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She created and has directed a summer study abroad program in Vienna since 2008.
Having lived and worked in Vienna for over six years, and spending more than a decade abroad, she brings to the photo tours an extensive knowledge and passion for the city, Austrian culture and the surrounding countries of Central and Eastern Europe. As a dual and bilingual German – American citizen, Jessica’s family roots are deeply embedded in the German-speaking world. She is committed to providing a unique and personalized travel experience to all participants.
