Y: Which is the project that you're most proud of?

J: The project I'm most proud of is a piece called Where Does Honey Come From? It's a mixed-media project that incorporates fabric, patterns, photo collage, and painting. I think this piece really pushed me to learn about different types of media and challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone.

Y: How did the ViennArt Portfolio Program help you grow as an artist and designer?

J: The portfolio program helped me grow as an artist because of all the support and guidance from the teachers. Their recommendations and feedback were incredibly valuable in helping me develop my technical skills. I also found the studio time especially helpful because it allowed me to focus on my work and complete my portfolio within a relatively short period of time.

Y: You're accepted to all the schools you applied to. What do you think made your portfolio stand out?

J: When I began building my portfolio, I knew I wanted to major in Graphic Design, so I made a conscious effort to incorporate design elements into my work. I think combining graphic design concepts with fine art and working across a variety of mediums helped me stand out from other applicants.

Y: What advice would you give to students who are just starting their portfolio?

J: For students working on their portfolios, I would recommend making the most of your studio time. Stay focused on your work and try to minimize outside distractions. The time you have in the studio is incredibly valuable, and using it effectively can make a huge difference in completing strong work within a limited timeframe.

I'm really excited to see where this opportunity takes me. I'm looking forward to participating in the internships RISD offers, and I'm excited to begin exploring the graphic design field and gaining real-world experience.
